In this video I am going to show you why
50 is the new 30 and 70 is the new 50,
give you some insight on what makes this possible and show you the path to optimal health and wellness.
Hey look, 30 to 40 years ago it was common to work to age 65 and have a heart attack or stroke shortly thereafter. The treatment was bed rest and then lifestyle changes. Lacking the powerful (and expensive) medical technology and medications we have today, that person was typically dead in one to five years.
Current knowledge and technology now allows us to extend life much further. However, as a recent report suggested, many people will live longer but less healthily with more diseases. What this means to Medicare and our future healthcare is uncertain, but one thing is clear - we can't continue at the same level of care we now enjoy when the population is growing, aging and increasingly overweight. The resources (like money) are not there. I suspect there will be some rationing of care and increased cost directly to the consumer – either increased insurance cost or out of pocket cost, or both. More so than ever it will “pay to stay healthy”.
The good news is that current knowledge and technology also has changed the way we can assess and improve health. Health is no longer considered to be the lack of disease and injury, but rather the highest level of physical, mental, and spiritual function that can be achieved given genetic and particular circumstances. Optimizing health and wellness has been shown to improve our form and function on many different levels, and this can be measured all the way down to the level of chromosomes. By optimizing health one can have the physiology, appearance and chromosomes of someone 5, 10, 15 even 20 years younger. This is why it's possible that 70 is the new 50 and 50 the new 30.
Getting there requires new thinking. Old thinking waits for the tell-tale signs disease or attributes these signs to age. Many of the signs and symptoms people attributed to the effects of “normal aging” - memory loss, decreased stamina and function, are actually manifestations of silent diseases and can be prevented if detected early. Hormone deficiencies can also lead to premature aging and can manifest with subtle or vague symptoms such as muscular weakness, fatigue, depression, poor sleep, memory loss, and poor sexual function, to name a few. Restoring deficient hormone levels can potentially restore zest and vitality while improving a multitude of symptoms and risks. New thinking looks for and corrects problems like this before they progress.
New thinking starts with a thorough assessment of current health status and uses ongoing strategies to improve it. Evaluation of your current health status can fall short without the proper tools and knowledge. Many of the diseases and risks that affect our current and future health status cannot be felt and are easily missed in cursory examinations. To this end, an executive/comprehensive physical goes far beyond a typical evaluation and helps impart an awareness of early disease, risk factors and sub optimal health situations such as hormone, nutrient or vitamin deficiencies. This awareness is the basis that allows significant changes in behavior, diet, exercise, supplements and medications if needed.
Don’t just take my word for it; here is what two patients had to say in an excerpt from the Gulfshore Life magazine February 2010 article: Is the Executive Physical for You?
"Rich Procopio, a Naples resident and CEO of a company based in Pennsylvania, had always thought his regular physicals were sufficient. He normally received a clean bill of health.
Then he started seeing a Naples doctor who offers executive physicals…..which showed that the basic exams Procopio had previously been receiving had missed plaque building up in his arterial walls … “There are all these little things going on that are time bombs inside of people that they don’t know about.”
That’s the main reason Todd Gates, chairman of Gates Inc. construction company in Naples, also opted for an executive physical.
“There’s an old saying: ‘If you don’t know it’s broken, you can’t fix it’,” says Gates. “The more I know about my physical well-being, the more I can do to improve it.”
The next step on the path to health and wellness is to improve your health status by using knowledge from your comprehensive exam to put proven health tactics into action and then measure the results. To this end an important part of my health and wellness toolbox is my Medical Wellness Program. It uses a process that is fast and efficient and aims to improve health fast. The goal is improved health, looks and function. I believe it is worth the effort and can make a difference between a life of deteriorating health and costly medical care, and one full of zest, sense of well-being, and peace of mind as testified here:
“Hard to believe it’s been a year. I feel great and you are the reason. I appreciate it so much. There is no way that I could have done everything I've done in the past year without the changes I have made in my health. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.” – Rob Whitman, owner and president of Whitman Industries.
If you agree that 70 is the new 50 and 50 the new 30, or if you are interested in optimizing your energy, appearence and sense of well-being, an executive/comprehensive physical or medical wellness program may be right for you.
To your health,
